چکیده

Agent-based approaches to simulating long-term location and mobility decisions and short-term activity and travel decisions of households and individuals are receiving increasing attention in land-use and transportation interaction (LUTI) models to predict land-use changes and travel behaviour in mutual interaction. Social interactions between households and between individuals potentially have an influence on a wide range of the long-term and short-term choices involved in these systems. In this paper we identify the areas in which social interactions play a role and address the question how these influences can be modelled in the context of agent-based LUTI models. We distinguish impacts on activity participation (joint activity participation, support-and-help activities) and impacts on decision making (information exchange, social adaptation of preferences and aspirations) as the two main areas of social influence. A prototype of a LUTI model is proposed that accounts for impacts of the social network on longer-term mobility decision making through information exchange and social adaptation of preferences and aspirations. The model is demonstrated in a numerical simulation. 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Application of Hazard Based Model for Housing Location Based on Travel Distance to Work

Residential location choice modeling is one of the areas in transportation planning that attempts to examine households location search behavior incorporating their trade-offs between housing quality, prices or rents, distance to work and other key factors. This brings up the need to come up with methods to logically allocate credible choice alternatives for individuals. This article attempts to...

Modeling the Interdependence in Household Residence and Workplace Choices

Models of residential and workplace location choice prevalent in the literature often assume that one choice dimension is exogenous to the other. In our view, a broad and uniform assumption that one choice dimension is exogenous and influences the other is too strong to use as the foundation for current behavioral research or applied policy analysis. We seek to examine the interdependence of re...

An Empirical Analysis of Vertical Integration Determinants among Peasant Farmers in Northern Algeria

This study aims to analyze the determinants of vertical integration (ownership and contract-ing) among peasant farmers in Northern Algeria. The choice of asset control is between ownership and a simple contracting. Thus, the integration of vertical stages of agricultural produc-tion leads to higher gross margins, influences the choice of marketing and supply channels, and improves market partic...

Housing Tenure Choice Implications of Social Networks: A Structural Model Approach

The influence of social networks on housing tenure choice remains conspicuously unexplored despite the fact that social networks are crucial in information dissemination. Social networks can encourage the attainment and retention of homeownership by channeling important knowledge and information regarding household finance, wealth management, home maintenance, etc. Social networks also provide ...

Agent-based Micro-simulation of Business Establishments

This paper describes the development and t esting of an agent-based micro-simulation of the evolution of individual 'business establishments' in a spatial economic system. The simulation uses comparatively simple, yet behavioural, rules and probabilistic models, using a Monte Carlo process to simulate behaviour from the probabilistic models. Establishments are represented by their consumption o...
